Description Digital watermarking is an effective method for copyright protection and for the data security of digital contents. In this paper, the authors propose a digital image watermarking algorithm in the multi-wavelet transform domain. The watermark is embedded in the selected coefficients using the quantization index modulation technique; therefore, the original image is not needed in the watermark extraction process. The authors develop an optimization technique using genetic algorithms to search for optimal quantization steps to improve the quality of the watermarked image and the robustness of the watermark. In addition, the authors construct a prediction model based on image moments and a back-propagation neural network to correct an attacked image geometrically before the watermark extraction process begins. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve good perceptual invisibility and security. It is also robust against various common image processing and geometrical attacks.
