Description |
The paper is a comparative descriptive analysis of inflation in the Asian region. It looks at the level and movement, as well as the causes, of inflation in each ADB member country. The inflation rate is found to be generally low and double-digit levels occurred only intermittently due to external shocks and climatic changes that adversely affected agricultural output. Monetary variables appear not to be cause of the inflation spurts experienced. China and Vietnam's high inflation experience is taken to be temporary and results from the structural transformation of their economies.
