ABSTRAKKajian ini mengenalpasti penentu penyertaan tenaga kerja wanita berkahwin di Malaysia. Menggunakan databancian yang dibuat kepada isi rumah di negeri Selangor dan Kedah yang dipilih secara rawak berstrata duaperingkat dan kelompok, kajian ini mengguna model probit untuk meninjau penentu kebarangkalian bekerja wanita berkahwin. Konsisten dengan kajian lepas, hasil analisis probit mendapati bahawa kadar upah dan bilangan anak yang berumur 18 tahun dan ke atas memberi kesan positif yang signifikan terhadap kebarangkalian bekerja, sementara pendapatan suami dan bilangan anak berumur 0-6 tahun memberi kesan negatif yang signifikan. Menariknya, pemboleh ubah kos jagaan anak didapati mempunyai kesan yang positif dan signifikan terhadap penyertaan tenaga kerja wanita berkahwin.Kata kunci: bilangan anak; kebarangkalian bekerja; kos jagaan anak; model probitABSTRACTThis study identifies the determinants of labor force participation of Malaysian married women and the issue of child care. Using a cross-section data of a survey done in the states of Selangor and Kedah, this study applied a probit model to explore the determinants of labor force participation of Malaysian married women. Consistent with previous studies, the probit analysis shows that the wage rate and number of children aged 18 years and above have positive significant impact on the probability to work, while husband’s income and number of children aged below six years have significant negative impact on married women’s decision to participate in the labor force. Interestingly, this study suggests that an increase in the costs of childcare significantly affects the labor supply of married Malaysian women.Keywords: MNL; probability to work; cost of child care; probit model
