Ide Laluan Pengembangan Pelaburan (IDP) telah diperkenalkan oleh Dunning pada tahun 1979. Hipotesis IDP menyatakan bahawa terdapat hubungan antara tingkat pembangunan sesebuah negara (diproksikan oleh Keluaran Negara Kasar per kapita) dengan kedudukan pelaburan antarabangsanya (stok pelaburan langsung asing (FDI) bersih, iaitu FDI keluar ditolak FDI masuk). Artikel ini adalah bertujuan untuk menguji ide IDP ini bagi kes Malaysia. Hubungan antara pelaburan dengan pembangunan ini akan dilihat berasaskan kajian empirikal bagi tempoh 1970-1998. Tujuannya ialah untuk menentukan sama ada FDI di Malaysia menepati jangkaan seperti apa yang disarankan dalam teorem IDP. Analisis regresi menunjukkan bahawa FDI di Malaysia memasuki tahap 1 dan tahap 2 daripada 5 tahap paradigma IDP dan dapatan ini menyokong paradigma IDP di Malaysia.ABSTRACTThe idea of an investment development path (IDP) was introduced by the Dunning in1979. The IDP hypothesizes an association between a country's level of development (proxied by Gross Domestic Product per capita) and its international investment position (net outward foreign direct investment (FDI) stock, i.e. outward minus inward direct investment stocks). This articles examines the idea of IDP by relating net FDI to percapita income, for Malaysia. A relationship between investment and development is tested using relevant data from 1970 to 1998. It examines whether Malausoa's FDI follows a somilar pattern to the one described by the IDP theorem. The regression results appears to support the claims that Malaysia's FDI enered stage 1 and 2 of the 5 stages of IDP, thereby giving some support to the IDP paradigm.
