Description In this study, it is intended to investigate social adaptation and friend relationships of adolescents living in orphanageand the ones living with their family; to determine if there isa relationship between their social adaptation and theirrelationships with friends and accordingly to offersuggestions for supporting adolescents’ social adaptationand relationships with their friends in a positive way. Theresearch has been conducted with136 adolescents whovoluntarily involved in the study including 68 adolescentsliving in orphanage and 68 adolescents living with their family between the ages 13-17. In order to evaluate the social adaptation of adolescents, Hacettepe PersonalityInventory-Social Adaptation Subscale developed byÖzgüven (1992) has been used. For analyzing adolescents’relationships with their friends Friend Relationship Scaledeveloped by Kaner (2000) has been used. These scaleshave been tested in terms of validity and reliability. Theresearch concludes that living in orphanage causessignificant differences in adolescents’ both social adaptationand friend relationships and there is a positive correlationbetween social adaptation and friend relationship (p<.05).
