Approximately one million resettled children and adolescents live in Germany today, a fact which is indicative of the significance of this group. Over the past few years integration problems have been pointed out and debated in the public. This article discusses the historical, political and economical framework of resettlement in Germany, concentrating on the current situation that determines the terms and conditions of integration. Focusing on linguistic, economic, educational and social domains, the degree and manner of integration into German society will be described. Finally, we will put forward an outline of empirical studies concerning processes and outcomes in acculturation. Special emphasis will be given to gender differences in acculturation.
