Description Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the main problems of global health, among other reasons due to its high prevalence, its important economic cost and the number of premature deaths that causes. To Know the cost of a diabetic patient from their control, treatment and complications is a priority. The methodology was: Several related articles were reviewed, as well as information provided by the Secretary of Health.An analysis of an indigenous Chontal community of the Guaytalpa Village of the municipality of Nacajuca was carried out. Where the community has a total of 2,469 inhabitants, (INEGI, 2010), in 2016 there were a total of 563 new diabetic patients, control and treatment (SIS Health Information System, 2017). Data by the Nacajuca Sanitary Jurisdiction. This indicates that 22.80% of the population is affected by diabetes mellitus. This implies that this disease has a catastrophic expenditure that contributes the health sector. A total amount of $ 84,863.00 pesos is generated per diabetic patient.In order to solve this public health problem, it is necessary to work in co-responsibility, patient, family, community, health personnel and government. Nowadays, it has focused on working in primary health care in a preventive way and to make a side of the curative that was given priority years ago. All health sectors have reached an agreement on the universalization of health so that there is no inequality of care.
La diabetes mellitus (DM) es uno de los principales problemas de salud mundial, entre otras razones por su elevada prevalencia, su importante coste económico y el número de muertes prematuras que provoca. Conocer el costo que conlleva un paciente diabético desde su control, tratamiento y sus complicaciones es una prioridad. La metodología fue: Se revisaron varios artículos relacionados, así como información proporcionada por la Secretaria de Salud en 2016.  Se realizó un análisis de una comunidad indígena chontal del Poblado Guaytalpa del municipio de Nacajuca. Donde la comunidad tiene un total de 2,469 habitantes, (Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geografía e Informática (INEGI), 2010); en el 2016 hubo un total de 563 pacientes diabéticos de nuevo ingreso, control y tratamiento Sistema de Información de Salud (SIS), 2017. Datos por la Jurisdicción Sanitaria Nacajuca. Esto nos indica que 22.80 % de la población está afectada por la diabetes mellitus. Esto implica que por esta enfermedad se tiene un gasto catastrófico que aporta el sector salud. Se genera un monto total de $84,863.00 pesos por paciente diabético.Para solucionar este problema de salud pública se debe de trabajar en corresponsabilidad, paciente, familia, comunidad, personal de salud y gobierno. Hoy en día se ha enfocado a trabajar en atención primaria la salud de manera preventiva y hacer un lado lo curativo que años atrás se dio prioridad. Todos los sectores de salud han tomado un acuerdo sobre la universalización de salud para que no exista una desigualdad de atención.
