Description      This paper analyses the natural resources as well as the availability of infraestructure for the tourism economy in the state of Oaxaca, México. In the first part of the paper, the evaluation of Oaxaca’s natural resources is presented, followed by the description of the methodology used to estimate the offer of goods and services demanded by tourists. Then, we appraise the relationship between the natural endowment of Oaxaca and the local infrastructure available for the tourism economy and how this shapes several different tourist spaces within the state territory. In the last section of the study, we explain why natural resources in Oaxaca are not being exploited correctly and we link this situation to the lack of adequate infraestructure.
     El presente trabajo analiza los elementos naturales y la infraestructura del estado de Oaxaca para el desarrollo de la actividad turística. En un primer apartado, se mencionan los tipos de atractivos naturales que posee el territorio oaxaqueño. En una segunda sección, se describe el proceso metodológico que se utilizó para la valoración cuantitativa de los bienes y servicios turísticos de los distritos que integran a esta entidad federativa. Posteriormente, se describen las particularidades turístico-naturales encontradas. Por último, se demuestra que, desde la perspectiva de esta actividad económica, la riqueza natural de este estado se desaprovecha al no contar con una infraestructura turística adecuada.
