HRM

Description Competency is a quality of being adequately qualified for a particular job or task. The typology of HR competencies has been described differently by different authors. Competencies can be hierarchically arranged and can be divided into categories and sub-categories like core competency, threshold competency, managerial competency, technical/functional competency and behavioural competencies. Recruiters or organizations demand that the young professionals joining them come equipped with competencies required for effective job performance and for fulfilling business goals. Academic institutions have a major stake towards imparting competencies to young professionals that suit the business demands and practices.  This paper reviews the pedagogies for developing competencies among students of a post-graduate programme namely M.A. in Human Resource Management in an institution of higher learning. An examination of the on-campus and off- campus pedagogies provide evidence that the studied institution has been responsive in structuring and incorporating components of competency development in its curriculum besides organizing additional innovative pedagogies like panel discussions and workshops to prepare the young minds towards changing scenario of business and expected competencies that would allow them to adapt to the constant change.
