Description This paper describes the proposal of redesign a handling containers process in a Brazilian retroportuary terminal, using Business Process Management - BPM - methodology. The paper employ applied research utilised through the different stages of a case study, as it embodies the various aspects that influence the implementation of the internal handling process of containers in the concerned organisation. The mapping of the process used allowed for an understanding of the activity flow in study. The new processes were mapped out and designed. Analysing them was evidenced a considerable 43% reduction in container handling in the proposed processes as compared to the current process. By analysing the data at the end of the study it was observed that the proposed redesign of the processes provided the organisation under study with the possibility of major improvements that had a significant positive impact on the robustness, dynamism, and understanding of its business activities.
