Description The present study focuses on the use and functions of code-switching in a Zhuhai’s middle school. By means of class recording and class observance, the paper finds out that teachers mainly speak Putonghua and English in the English classrooms, though Zhuhai is a city in China, close to Macau and Hong Kong and its main dialect is Cantonese. Additionally, totally six functions of code-switching are discovered in the English class, they are, translating, economizing, maintaining class discipline, affective functions, checking understanding, and topic switch, all of which are helpful to English teaching.
