Description According to International Air Transport Association (IATA), the aviation industry supports tourism and international business by providing the world’s only rapid worldwide transportation network. Airlines transported 2.8 billion passengers and 47.6 million metric tons of air cargo in 2011, connecting the world’s cities with 36,000 routes. By providing these services, the aviation industry plays an important role in enabling economic growth and providing various economic and social benefits. (The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2013). In Bangladesh the role of domestic airlines are increasing economically and socially. Basically, secondary data are used and four main domestic airlines are considered as the sample. The paper focused on the history of aviation industry in Bangladesh, the overview of domestic airlines and the current trend. The paper is concluded with some policy recommendations to further development of the airlines industry in Bangladesh.
