Description |
Poverty and unemployment are the two most challenging socio- economic dimensions of economic growth. The pattern and magnitude of economic growth, comprehensive policies and programme of the government affects both. Poverty and employment have their close association with economic growth. Productive employment creation is on driving seat to reduce poverty. However, there are two-way causal relationships between unemployment and poverty reduction. People are poor because they are unemployed and vice-versa. Therefore, we needed bi-dimensional strategy of poverty and unemployment reduction. It could be reduced through employment intensive growth strategy and effective poverty reduction policies. Unfortunately, we failed to reduce desired poverty and unemployment level. Recent experiences indicated that while economic growth is a necessary condition for poverty reduction, but it is not sufficient condition. Because it is depends on pattern, source, and strategy of growth and its distribution. Productive employment plays a critical role in that context. Some countries of East and South East Asia (ESEA), e.g. the republic of Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand have their successful story of high rates of growth along with higher rates of poverty reduction thanks to productive employment in 1980s and 1990s. Therefore we need such an innovative and indigenous growth pattern, policy, programme, income distribution and will power to reduce poverty and give job to every Indian to sustain and increase their livelihood. This study would be based on secondary data which collected from various authentic sources such as RBI bulletin, CSO, and NSSO.Poverty, unemployment, productive employment, pattern of growth, distribution of Income
