Tourism has become one of the most important and talked about economic activity in recent times. Developing and least developing nations like India and Srilanka, Nepal, Mauritius can be the center of attraction. Tourism has become a multidimensional and economically beneficially sector in recent times. It is expected in the latest reports and estimates that world tourism industry is going to grow; despite of other traditional sector will show sluggishness during same time span. The quality and nature of tourism sector is somehow quite different and very inclusive in nature. The important and most attractive element of tourism industry is it does not need huge investments like any other industries and it is very inclusive in nature which means that the tourism provides jobs and livelihood to all regardless of their education and other qualifications. This inclusiveness is very unique for the sector and it makes the tourism sector such important and vital for economic transformation of backwards and lest developed regions of country. Another feature of tourism sector is its ability to drive other sectors (Hotels, Transportation, Fooding, Hospitality, Tour and Travels) alike. Broadly the tourism sector is based on tourists or the person who travelers for pleasure to another destination other than his or her know or regular place of accommodation. Tourists can be divided into two categories; Domestic tourists and Foreign Tourists. Domestic tourism has its own importance and it also signifies the economic development in the country but the real stake is on the foreign tourists. The tourist or traveler who is visiting another country for pleasure and enjoyment will be known and defined as foreign tourist in this regard. Recently with the development of world class infrastructure at remote destination has impacted on increase in foreign tourist arrivals worldwide. India has been a place to be visited by International Tourists for centuries, it calm and smoothing natural greenery, rich culture and spiritual offerings to tourists attract tourists all over the world. Recently the arrival of foreign tourist has seen a sharp growth which is a very healthy sign for the industry. The present paper is an investigation in the foreign tourist arrival in India in last decade and a half. What has been their financial implications on Indian exchequer along with what major reasons are due to which international tourists regularly visit India despite of its so called hard conditions for visitors. The paper further furnishes the recommendation to increase the foreign tourist arrivals in the country by addressing their major problems and by improving the present scenario to better.
