The article presents the concept of financial risk by emphasizing the financial risk in the banking activity. The different types of risks in banks, financial risk management systems and tools are analyzed. The essence of three risk mitigation methods - risk transfer, risk distribution and risk equalization, as well as the control exercised over the banking activities of banks and banking supervision by the Bulgarian national bank are examined. Conclusions and recommendations on the risk management system in banks, the state of risk and its control are made.
