Description The article presents analyzes of the genesis and the essence of the market competition, the characteristics of state antimonopoly regulation, the definition and assessment of the competitiveness of the individual countries and the place of Bulgaria in the Global Competitiveness Index of the World Economic Forum for 2017. The study embraces topics connected to the existence of the "hidden economy", the essence of unfair competition and opportunities for its regulation by governments. Recommendations have been formulated on the more important policies to reduce the negative impact of the hidden economy and state regulation of competitiveness.
