Description The level of ecological science is currently characterized by a high development of the experimental part, which leads to the presence of rich factual material and lesser development of the theoretical base, etc. mathematical ecology, which is limited to the use of a small number of lesser related theories. This determines the need to direct efforts in developing and approving of models for recognizing and forecasting environmental processes and phenomena. The paper presents a mathematical model for assessing the content of heavy metals in the soil by indirect signs of plants. Research on the effectiveness of the recognition procedures has been carried out, depending on the number of status classes and the volume of training data. It was found that in three of the classes of state, the nonlinear algorithm gives better recognition, and with increasing the volume of the learner sample the recognition efficiency increases.
