Subject Fiscal Deficits, Economic Growth, Global Financial Crisis, Jordan

Description The purpose of this study is to investigate Jordan’scurrent fiscal conditions, development, and its effect on theeconomy in the context of a fragile recovery from the globalfinancial crisis 2008 (GFC). It examines the relationship betweenbefore and after grants fiscal deficit and economic growth andanalyzes the past trends of the major fiscal variables and policymeasures. The results suggest that before (after) grants fiscaldeficit yields a weakly positive (negative) correlation with GDPgrowth, in short and long term alike. Therefore, this supports theNeo-Ricardian viewpoint of neutral effect of fiscal deficit oneconomic growth.
