Description The protection of plant genetic resources aims at growing and maintenance of live plants out of their natural environment, in the form of whole plants, seeds, pollen, tissues or cell cultures. Botanical gardens are very important for maintaining species and genetic diversity. They play an important role in raising public awareness of biodiversity conservation and plant genetic resources. The Botanical garden of the Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (IPGR) in Sadovo was established in 2002 under the Plant genetic resources program in the frameowrk of the National Strategy for Biodiversity Conservation (1994) and National Action Plan (2000). It contributes to the conservation and wise use of plant genetic resources. The purpose of this article is to describe and promote some of the rare and endemic species grown in the Botanical garden of IPGR - Sadovo.
