Description In this case study, I examine the culture- and gender-imposed stereotypes that have acted both as obstacles and catalysts in the leadership development of Claudia Almeida, who was born in Brazil and immigrated to the United States as a young girl. Almeida is currently the Vice President of Sales for a large informational technology company in Atlanta, Georgia, an unlikely position for a woman, especially a single mother of a young girl, and a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS). This paper is based on an interview I conducted with Almeida along with current research on the topic of women in leadership, and cultural leadership—both from a national and religious perspective. In this study, I explore how Almeida has been successfully able to use these potential impediments to her demanding career in a positive way that allows her to grow as both a woman and a leader in a field dominated by men. Keywords: leadership, gender, woman, mother, culture, Brazil, religion, Latter-day Saint, LDS, information technology
