Description |
The purpose of study was to examine the perceived styles of leadership among first level police management within the Baltimore City Police Department and the impact that these leadership styles may have on patrol officers. Four leadership styles were measured (Transformational, Transactional, Passive-Avoidant, and Outcome of Leadership) using the MLQ 5X short form questionnaire. The study closes gaps in the literature by addressing how leadership styles play an important role in supervising a para-military style work environment. The study determined that leadership styles do matter and impact an officer’s willingness to perform.
