Description |
Among the different approaches to organization and management one of the most relevant to the analysis of a particular work situation is classical theory of bureaucracy of Max Weber. This study analyzed the relevance of bureaucracy as a particular work solution of the teaching profession or fraternity at Chota Mwelwa basic school in Central Province of Zambia, and gave a detailed assessment of its contributions and limitations. The name of the school is not real for the purpose of observing ethical issues of anonymity and confidentiality. It was discovered that there is need for legal rules and regulation which are mandatory, the need for impersonality, specialization and division of labor, authority structure and hierarchical structure, to have rationality among officials in order to have effective organization and management of teaching professional in a centralized large scale organization such as those of the modern institutions. There is also ultimate need for order and discipline as a result of rules and regulations, the need of keeping records in written form for management of large scale institutions, need for the hierarchy of authority and structure for promotion of uniformity, order and discipline, routine so that time for planning is saved and to make it easy for subordinates to follow and know what to do even when the superior is not around, the need for technical selection for entry and promotion to promote quality service and rationality for effective commands.Disadvantages of Max Weber theory being discovered were the red tape, promotion of dominance of authority, having the tendency of empire building, complications in terms of responsibilities, and officers being irrational such as stealing of organization funds or properties. In conclusion the theory was said to qualify greatly to work well in a centralized authority of a large scale organization and management as compared to a democratic authority or a small scale organization despite its failures or limitations and is the most appropriate approach and most relevant to the analysis of a particular work solution in different context or situation.
