Description |
This paper offers an efficiency analysis of the regional agriculture sectors in Italy. Applying both parametric and non parametric approach for frontier models to regional level data, the article measures the productivity of regional sectors and investigates the causes of production efficiency. I find that many southern regions have recovered the disadvantage compared to the northern regions during the period analyzed. Furthermore, the work shows that regions with larger firms reach better results, and a more intensive use of organic fertilizer and renewable resources is associated with higher productivity. The models estimated also point out that greater attention to specific education and innovation can improve efficiency.
