Description |
This study attempts to investigate the effect of exports and imports on the economic growth of Syria over the period 1980-2010. The ADF unit root test, Johansen cointegration test, Granger causality test, impulse response functions (IRF), and variance decomposition (VD) analysis were used in this study. The Johansen cointegration test indicates that GDP is positively and significantly related to the exports and imports. Imports have the biggest effect on the GDP. The Granger causality test indicates bidirectional causality relationships between exports, imports and GDP in the short and long run. The study result indicates that is important to improve the quality of exports and increase its diversity, as well as simplify the import and export procedures.
