Description Oil has maintained a dominant part of Quebec’s energy balance. It is one of the main inputs for manufacturing sectors and transportation, so Oil is also very important for the Quebec’s economic growth. This paper investigates the short and long-run causality issues between oil consumption and economic growth in Quebec, using cointegration, and Granger causality test based on error-correction model, from annual data covering the period of 1983-2013. The overall results reveal that there is unidirectional causality running from economic growth to oil consumption without any feedback effects. Thus, oil conservation policies can be initiated without deteriorating economic side-effects in Quebec.
