Cultural Anthropology

Description Social-cultural anthropology is exclusive to Indian anthropology as India is a diverse country by means of everything and at the same time holds the notion of Unity in Diversity. It will account both social issues and cultural aspects as well. Initiating from mode of production in a specific ecosystem, anthropologists at micro-level tries to find out the division of labour and on the basis of that social, economic, political, health, educational and religious issues in different levels of historicity. Many of those communities, social groups, societies, strata and social folds are indigenous, close to nature, emphasizing on sustainable approaches and folk in nature. Their tradition has often become symbolic and oral. They try to preserve their grey literature in their book of culture; and that is why culture is so important in Indian context. Culture may be the cause of identity, clash, negotiation, and so forth. Many problems arise due to researcher-informant bias and even informant-informant cultural value clash especially during cross-cultural studies.
