Description |
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the levels of blood pressure, its association with obesity indices and risk of cardiovascular disease with obesity indices. A cross sectional study was conducted among 512 Punjabi adults (230 males and 282 females) aged 20-70+ years in Delhi, India. Correlation was calculated between systolic and diastolic BP and various indices of obesity to see the association of obesity indices with blood pressure. Odds ratio was calculated for assessing the risks of hypertension associated with obesity indices using multiple logistic regression. Correlations of BP with all indices of obesity were found to be significant (p<0.01). BMI and WHtR were found to be the good screening tools for assessing the risk factor among Punjabi adults supported by strong correlation of BMI and WHtR with Systolic and Diastolic blood pressure and by high odds ratio for systolic as well as diastolic hypertension.
