Description This paper analyzes the background associated with poverty and make synthesis of the main elements of the phenomenon that allow addressing its study. To accomplish this, the start of the poverty in the world is located temporarily, which leads, on the one hand, to distinguish between poverty and inequality and, on the other, to observe how has been tried to approach the analysis of the phenomenon of poverty, that still remains valid, since 40 % of the world population suffers it.
Este artículo analiza los antecedentes relacionados con la pobreza y hace una síntesis de los principales elementos del fenómeno que permiten abordar el estudio del mismo. Para llevar a cabo esto, se sitúa temporalmente el comienzo de la pobreza en el mundo, lo que conduce, por un lado, a distinguir entre pobreza y desigualdad y, por el otro, a observar la forma como se ha intentado abordar el estudio y análisis del fenómeno de la pobreza, que aún sigue teniendo vigencia, puesto que el 40% de la población mundial sufre del mismo.
