Description |
This paper investigates the stability between the Islamic and conventional banks and its determinants over the period of 2004 – 2013, particularly within Malaysian context. The study employs the financial ratios and z-score index as indicators of bank stability using a series of parametric and non-parametric tests. It is then followed by an estimation of the pooled OLS regression controlling for Islamic banks dummy, crisis period dummy, bank specific, market structure and macroeconomic factor in order to examine the determinants of bank stability. The result reveals that Islamic banks are significantly less stable than the conventional banks. In addition, the result suggests that bank size, level of capitalisation and income diversification are imperative for the stability of Islamic and conventional banks.
