Description |
The key role played by a social democratic government in New Zealand in constructing and executing a rapid and comprehensive neo-liberal restructuring project provides an interesting case study which is "'different' but not 'exceptional.'" Left governments and parties in advanced capitalist countries around the world have been compromised to varying degrees by the ascendancy of neoliberalism, the imperative of international competitiveness and the decreased viability of "Keynesianism in one country." However, in New Zealand a "Left" government went even further by positively embracing the neo-liberal project.
