Description |
Set against the backdrop of both the collapse of the Soviet Union and the advent of the second Gulf War, former US-President Bush's call for a "New World Order" was heralded as the mark of a new and brighter era. This notion of a "New World Order" has been popularly received as something akin to the metaphorical light at the end of the tunnel; namely, a new era dominated by peace and democracy, in contrast to the relatively darker and more turbulent times of the 20th century in which economic crises and political catastrophes were the order of the day.
