Description |
This issue of SPE features two articles on the uprising in Egypt, arguably the centre of the Arab world. In "January 25, the Day of Egypt's Revolutionary Historical Makeover" Emad El-Din Aysha centres out the role of changes in the media. The growth of satellite TV, he argues, contributed to a broad cultural shift among middle-class Egyptian youth. At the same time, Facebook, Twitter, and other new social media allowed them to create their own virtual communities and link them to activities on the ground.
