Description |
In other articles in this issue, Brian Caterino and Phillip Hansen examine the work of C.B. Macpherson and Jurgen Habermas. They argue that the work of these scholars, concerned with the potential for self-realization in the case of Macpherson and self-determination in the case of Habermas, offer powerful resources for challenging current orthodoxies and practices. The philosophies of the two authors — which consider the impact capitalism has on individual freedom for Macpherson, on institutions and public life for Habermas — may be fused to form a critical theory of democracy.
