Title Local Activism and Neoliberalism: Performing Neoliberal Citizenship as Resistance

Creator Changfoot, Nadine

Subject

Description Nadine Changfoot addresses the nature of contemporary resistance politics through a finely detailed examination of two cultural and anti-poverty groups in the City of Peterborough, Ontario. She argues that these groups are involved in “performance”; performing good neoliberal citizenship in a way that allows them to relate to the local state. At the same time, these performances constitute resistance in that they are in aid of (re)claiming public space and leveraging resources from the local state. Thus far, their efforts have rendered some notable successes, although not without challenges.
