Description This article reflects on the importance of status – citizenship and world citizenship – of two ‘minorities’ - indigenous and Muslim. Citizenship can but need not be a privileged status in today’s world. The privileges of earlier legal subjects were based on legal instruments. Contemporary privilege in globalized market societies is rather related to economic and cultural circumstances. Historically privileges were linked to legal obligations. The contemporary sense of obligations exists but is less formalized.

Subject World citizenship; Minorities; Indigenous minority; Muslim minority; Contemporary privilege.
