Description Cincuenta años después de la publicación del primero y más influyente artículo en relaciones internacionales (RI), que analiza las motivaciones de la ayuda externa, A theory of foreign aid, de Hans Morgnethau, la comunidad investigadora en IR todavía no ha construido un cuerpo teórico sólido que explique la cooperación internacional al desarrollo. La mayor parte de los estudios empíricos en ayuda externa han sido contribuciones procedentes de otras disciplinas, especialmente desde la economía. La investigación desde el campo de las relaciones internacionales ha sido principalmente descriptiva o pobremente conectada con los paradigmas de las RI.
Este artículo propone el análisis de las motivaciones de las decisiones de concesión de ayuda externa por parte de los donantes. Estas motivaciones serían analizadas desde la perspectiva teórica de las relaciones internacionales. De este modo, busca contribuir, desde la disciplina de las RI, a la explicación del proceso por el cual los países desarrollados transfieren recursos a los países en desarrollo.

50 years after the publication of the first and influential article in international relations (IR) analyzing foreign aid motivations, A theory of foreign aid, by Hans Morgenthau, IR scholarship has not yet accomplished a consistent theoretical body explaining international development cooperation. Most of the empirical studies on foreign aid have been contributions from other disciplines, especially economics. Research from the field of international relations has been mostly descriptive or poorly connected with IR paradigms.
This article proposes to analyze motivations of foreign aid allocations decisions of donors. These motivations will be examined from the theoretical perspective of the international relations scholarship. In this way, it is sought to contribute, from the discipline of IR, to the explanation of the process in which developed countries make transfers of resources to developing countries.
