Description After falling in disuse years ago, the heritage coming from declining activities such as mining goes through an important stage as a resource for a new way of understanding the cultural tourism. In fact there are many experiences with very positive economic impacts on the territory mostly in those countries with an industrial culture (United Kingdom, Germany, United States, etc.). Spain offers some interesting examples of how the conservation of the heritage and its adaptation to the tourist uses is providing positive outcomes some regions of the country (Asturias, Andalucía, Cataluña, etc.). Despite this success, not all mining Heritage is able to drive by itself the creation of wealth and employment even with the involvement of the public administration. Precisely because of that misunderstanding among the public administrations involved and the many difficulties found to take off are conditioning even the beginning of this tourism process. This will be the real core of this contribution.
Los patrimonios procedentes de las actividades en declive como la minería pasan por una etapa de atención, tras décadas de abandono, como recurso para una nueva modalidad de turismo cultural. De ello hay numerosas experiencias, fundamentalmente, en los países de cultura industrial (Reino Unido, Alemania, Estados Unidos, etc.), con efectos económicos apreciables sobre el ámbito territorial en el que se ubican. España cuenta ya con algunos ejemplos válidos para fundamentar la hipótesis de que la conservación y adaptación al uso turístico de este patrimonio ha dado resultados aceptables en determinadas regiones del país (Asturias, Andalucía, Cataluña, etc.). Al margen de los éxitos alcanzados, se corre el riesgo de sacar la conclusión de que todo el patrimonio minero es capaz por sí mismo de impulsar la creación de riqueza y empleo en el medio rural, sin embargo, la realidad es otra, a pesar de haber iniciativas, recursos y muchas administraciones públicas involucradas. Precisamente, la gran variedad de actores en juego con intereses dispares junto a las dificultades para su despegue constituyen estrangulamientos que condicionan que el proceso anterior se inicie o culmine. Tal será la hipótesis de partida de esta contribución.
