Description |
By employing panel co-integration model and variance decompositions, this study seeks to examine the short run and long run dynamics between the profit rates (PLS) and the interest rates (CBIR) for yearly data of 18 Islamic banks in GCC during the period 1998 till 2010. Except for Saudi in the short run, no significant correlation is found between profit rates and conventional interest rates for Islamic banks in GCC countries. Our results infer that Islamic banking in GCC has to a certain extent managed to live up to its ideals, more stable and is more consistent with the maqasid al- shariah.
