Description |
Abstract. In the absence of convincing evidence, data for Sweden and Mauritius are used in academic publications to illustrate the Demographic Transition Theory. These data are closely examined and found to be in clear contradiction of this theory. Demographic Transition Theory is also contradicted by the best available data for England. Other examples of contradicting evidence are also discussed.Keywords. Population growth, Economic growth, Malthusian stagnation, Unified Growth Theory, Demographic Growth Theory, Stages of growth.JEL. A12, A20, B10, C50, Y80.
