Description Despite filing a health record for students entering the university, it is rarely used in practice. The practical use of these records began in a student clinic and the results of its application in three years have been accompanied. One of the problems in the relationship between various applications of biomedical field is incompatibility and problems related to the integration of data from different applications. Ontology suggests a standard method to describe a specific domain in a hierarchical structure. An application was developed in 2009 and used in a student clinic. Given the benefits of accessibility to the records of students referring to the clinic, health record, with some modifications, was used in subsequent years. To create ontology for health record of students, the database used was converted into RDF format. Then, Protégé software was used to create the ontology. The created ontology was submitted to the National Center for Biomedical Ontology and published by the portal of this center. Due to the lack of a standard method to model student health records, there have always been incompatibilities between different files. Ontology helps domain assumptions to be clearly expressed, the comments of experts to be formally received, and different applications to be used for registration information with no concern of mismatched and incompatible data. It seems that the application of ontology can be very useful in the field of bioinformatics in Iran in order to centralize the efforts made in various sectors.
