Description This paper analyzes the Chilean policy for market competition, mainly through case studies. Consideration is given to both the antitrust laws and institutions, and the regulation and deregulation policies. Furthennore, it reviews the use of biddings for the concession of projects. as a way to prompt competition ex-ante. It is gathered from the analysis that generally the legislation in this area is adequate. The main restriction of the policy for market competition lies all the institutions responsible for enforcing them. which lack enough resources and are too close to the political authorities.
