Description An analysis is made of the inflationary process in Argentina between 1978 and 1986, by means of the econometric technique known as Vector Auto-Regression (VAR). The variables studied are the rate of change of prices, money and type of exchange, real wages and level of activity. The results show that the behaviour of the rate of inflation follows the inertial pattern, and that money behaves in an endogenous manner. The exchange rate and level of activity affect real wages. The economic programme of June 1985 produced some changes in the relationship between the variables. The inflationary process could prove to be unstable at high rates of inflation.
Se analiza el comportamiento del proceso inflacionario argentino, entre 1978 e 1986, utilizándose la técnica econométrica conocida como Vectores Autorregresivos. Las variables estudiadas son las tasas de cambio en precios, dinero y tipo de cambio, el salario real y el nivel de actividad. Los resultados indican que el comportamiento de la tasa de inflación es de tipo inercial, y que el dinero se comporta endógenamente. El tipo de cambio y el nivel de actividad afectan al salario real. El programa económico de junio de 1985 ha producido algunos cambios en las relaciones entre las variables, y el proceso inflacionario podría ser inestable a altas tasas de inflación.
