Description |
One of the central goals of continental economic integration is the reorganization of manufacturing, a process that has been characterized by massive job loss in the northeastern and midwestern parts of the continent, and in central Mexico. The US southwest and the Northern Industrial Belt of Mexico have been important receiving areas in this regional industrial re-alignment. Surviving factories, as well as completely new ones, have been relocated, reopened, and qualitatively transformed through two sets of customs rules.
