Description |
The immigrant worker in Europe is the "poor cousin" of the European working class. He is also, of all the characters animating the stage of political economy, one of the most disregarded and neglected. He is treated unjustly not only in reality but also in the realm of theory. As we will attempt to show, an analysis of his nature and function under late capitalism can illuminate an important new aspect of the capitalist state, an aspect determined by a new form of capital accumulation and determining in its turn new ways of disciplining the working class. This, then, will be the focus of the present paper, which will be limited in time and space.
