Description |
In the 1991 British Columbia provincial election campaign Mike Harcourt, the leader of the New Democratic Party, was frequently asked by the media whether he was a socialist. He always looked embarrassed and replied that he was a "social democrat." If pressed, as he was on occasion, to explain the difference he ducked the question by saying, "we aren't promising any miracles," This response seemed reassuring enough: no illusions were possible here because not much real change was being promised.
