Subject

Description Roger Keil’s article “Empire and the Global City: Perspectives of Urbanism after 9/11” takes us to yet another large global shift on which much scholarly ink has been spilled: empire. But in an innovative twist, Keil provides wide-ranging consideration of the “imbrication of urbanization and empire,” arguing that the full shape of American empire cannot be fully grasped without considering its urban dimensions. For Keil, urbanization is instrumental in the cohesion and vulnerability of the current phase of empire. His discussion here, ranging from “9/11” to New Orleans, explores the implications of spatialization for American empire.
