Caixa Economica Federal, the federal government savings bank, has helped to boost the Brazilian economy in the acute crisis that started in the United States in 2008. “We anticipate a new record in real estate credit, from R$23.3 billion [US$13.7billion] in 2008 to approximately R$38.8 billion [US$22.8 billion] in 2009 — a 66.5% rise. As for the My House, My Life program,the target is 400,000 units before the end of 2009,” says Maria Fernanda Ramos Coelho, Caixa’s CEO, in an interview with Klaus Kleber.
