Description |
Economists differ on their views regarding sources of the economic growth. unlike human and physical capital; different opinions exist regarding the importance of financial system for economic growth. This paper aims studying role of the financial intermediation on economic growth of the two Arabic countries (Egypt and Saudi Arabia). Using Cointegration model to capture the long-term relationship and Error Correction Model for the short one, a very weak relationship between financial intermediation and economic growth found. Such result suggests that a possible no relationship between financial intermediation can exist. This is mainly due to the nature of the financial system. The financial intermediation sector is not efficient in these two countries. This implies that more studies are needed to examine the real and specific cause for such unusual relationship.
