The aim of this paper is to highlight the link between the regional science and the regional development fromEU. With the focus on the region, regional science has experienced, over 50 years of existence, different forms ofmanifestation, but also periods of progress and decay. One of its important features is multidisciplinarity, whichprovides it a special status. The current period offers it an opportunity of outstanding manifestation, regarding regionaldevelopment, allowing it to combine theoretical and practical research. Thus, among others, regional science canprovide a theoretical and methodological basis for the objectives of reducing the regional imbalances.
